I grew up in an impoverished environment, attended urban public schools in one of the worst school districts in the nation now known as “Failure Factories,” and I was clueless regarding Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Dyslexia; two learning inabilities I was diagnosed with in third grade. I have struggled academically throughout my life. Most people believe that a person will outgrow their learning deficiency; however, it is a lifelong condition. Dyslexia is not a prediction of failure. It is quite common, and many successful individuals have dyslexia. It’s a condition that affects the way the brain processes written and spoken language. People with Dyslexia are often very creative. I believe this is one of many reasons I was able to create the Academic Doctor, inspirational books, curriculums and ‘character’ mascots.
I was admitted into the oldest HBCU in the world, Wilberforce University named after William Wilberforce. Wilberforce is the first minority owned and created school in America. Its motto SUO MARTE, “By one’s own toil, effort, courage” inspired me to create the Academic Doctor. I have over 25 years of experience working with many students, teachers, parents, and administrators from all walks of life, socially, spiritually, financially, and culturally. I have yet to meet a student that I could not assist, even if it required me to refer them out to another agency or competitor. It is truly about the child being healed. It’s about determining why students are sick of school. It’s about the creation of a prescriptive plan being implemented after the Academic Diagnostics Assessment©. It’s about one’s ACADEMIC SUCCESS!!!
